Question oneWho has to see the qualification?

Not “would it look good” — who, by name or by role, will ever ask for it? An HR system that gates a band on a postgraduate qualification. A government notification. A visa officer. A promotion committee with a matrix. Write the reader down. If you cannot, stop: a qualification with no reader is a two-year purchase with no buyer on the other side. Two of this site’s bluntest negative verdicts fall straight out of this question — the reader joining a family business and the reader building their own company, neither of whom will ever be asked for the certificate.

Question twoDoes your reader’s rule say “degree”?

Now audit the exact wording your reader will apply. Some rules name a degree — and where they do, only a university award satisfies them, full stop. Others say “postgraduate qualification” or say nothing formal at all, and there the field opens up considerably, diplomas included. This single word is where the most money is wasted in Indian distance education, in both directions: people paying degree prices when no rule demanded one, and people holding diplomas against rules that did. Question threeIs a two-year MBA even the right instrument?

An MBA is a breadth instrument: many functions, moderate depth, long duration. If your real problem is one missing capability — you can sell but not read a balance sheet, say — breadth is the wrong shape and a targeted certificate closes the gap in months. If you are switching function, the maths usually favours a one-year postgraduate diploma over the full programme — the career-change page works the comparison honestly. The MBA earns its two years only when the reader from question one expects breadth, or the rule from question two demands the specific award.

Question fourAre these the right two years to spend?

The same programme bought at the wrong time is a different product. Bought straight out of graduation, it lands before you have work to hang it on — the fresh-graduate page argues for two working years first, and waiting a year is treated on this site as a legitimate option with its own page, not a failure. Bought on return from a career break, by contrast, it is one of the strongest uses there is, because it repairs exactly what a break damages — recency — as the returning-after-a-break page lays out. Timing does not change what the certificate says; it changes what the certificate does.

Question fiveDo you know the whole cost — and who carries it?

Last, and only last, the money. The headline fee is the visible fraction: add examination cycles and their calendar (the exams guide), the platform your evenings will actually live inside (the LMS guide), and two years of weekends. The fees guide shows how to total it properly. And if someone else is carrying the cost, the price of their money is usually a service bond — the employer-paying page tells you what to read in it before you sign, because funded study you cannot leave is its own kind of expensive.

The university awards; the institute teaches. iict.onlinemba.meIICT Lucknow run through three reader situations. Its own awards are the diplomas of an autonomous institute, not degrees — and the page is blunt about the situation where that means walking away. iipm.onlinemba.meIIPM Lucknow, the pharmaceutical-management specialist, under the same test. The “MBA” at the top of its list sits at masters level but is the institute’s own diploma — the page says so before it says anything else — with the university-degree route kept separate.

Quick answers about using this page

What if two of the five questions pull in opposite directions?

The earlier question wins. The sequence is deliberate: who reads the qualification outranks what instrument to buy, and the instrument outranks the cost. When answers genuinely conflict, the honest exit is usually “not this” — the six alternatives at onlinemba.me/instead.html cover that case.

Why doesn’t this page ask which institution to pick?

Because choosing an institution before settling the five questions is how most regretted enrolments start. Institution pages sit last on this site on purpose; three of them are linked at the bottom of this page, and this network’s own are among them.

I came out at “no”. Was reading this a waste?

That outcome is the site doing its job. Roughly a quarter of the twelve situations on onlinemba.me end in a negative verdict, and the alternatives page exists precisely for the reader who should not enrol in anything right now.
